Small Talk:
Whenever large-scale events such as school anniversaries or sports days are held on campus, elected officials invariably make an appearance. Naturally, they look for any opportunity to grab the microphone and deliver a speech on stage.
It goes without saying that these representatives wish to showcase their political achievements and ambitions to the audience—who are, after all, parents and teachers with voting rights.
However, with the rise of civic awareness and the public's right to supervise the government, people can now watch politicians questioning officials through the media. Who possesses real competence, who is merely superficial, who is diligent in public service, and who is acting recklessly—everything is brought into the light for public scrutiny.
Water can carry a boat, but it can also capsize it. While it is common to see politicians entering campuses to vie for votes, those with genuine competence and dedication will naturally win support. On the other hand, those who are superficial and reckless will likely only alienate the public, losing even more votes—which, in the end, defeats the purpose entirely.
